The Rewind: Troker, Indus Valley Civilization, Dwight Trible & Kamau Daáood

Friday's night of Global Jazz played to a full Marina Pavilion with a substantial number of onlookers from other areas on the Plaza. Starting with the "avant-garde, spiritual jazz of iconic Los Angeles vocalist Dwight Trible" and the powerfully poetic words of Kamau Daáood, the first act set a high precedent for levels of intrigue, power and genius.

With a seemingly more intimate performance compared to their noon show (thanks to a dark night sky), Indus Valley Civilization offered more musical genius with their mix of jazz tunes that incorporate Indian instruments such as tabla, mridangam and khanjira. This powerhouse group of musicians met during the Miles from India project that took the works of Miles Davis and mixed them with the sounds of India.

The night finished with Troker (slang for "trucker") out of Guadalajara, Mexico. They continued our jazz twisted night with a set that incorporated brass, DJing, percussion, bass and some traditional Mexican tunes. The set was nicely broken up with a humorous interlude that included some English stumbling and mistranslating--all in good fun. They were a nice climax to the night's energy levels. They had the crowd on their feet shouting "otra, otra!"

I love Miles Davis and his music, and wish I lived closer to the action in LA.
Great video. Last time I saw Miles play he was wearing a pair of black aviator sunglasses and laying it out.
Thanks for some great content!
