The Rewind: The Traveling Pickle Factory
Friday, July 22, 2011 at 6:01PM As part of Grand Performances' National Endowment for Arts grant this year we're highlighting the cultural diversity and history of LA's Boyle Heights neighborhood. Last night we had Rabbi Shmuel Marcus' Traveling Pickle Factory program grace our Marina Pavilion stage with buckets of spices, baskets of garlic, and boxes of Kosher salt.

People swirled and scooped along with Rabbi Marcus as he told stories behind using salt for pickling and joked about parting our fountain waters.

Backstage our crew even got in on the fun.

Today some staff members who were too busy handing out pickling supplies, were able to get in on the fun and start their own cucumbers on their journey to becoming delicious snacks. The Traveling Pickle Factory was one of our more unique events this summer and will surely be one of the most memorable.

We should definitely start using spices instead of using salt and sodium for cooking. Aside from the fact that it taste better, it is also more nutritious.
